Modern Victorian: Sewing a Victorian Shirt for Everyday Today (and a bonus skirt!)
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
In this video, we are revisiting an old project, which I personally felt was quite instrumental in my figure out what style of clothes I like to wear. The Victorian Era, closely followed by the Edwardian, have long been my favourite periods in history, fashion and aesthetic wise. Please don't forget that this means, in any shape or form, that I support those era's ideologies and values (I DO NOT). If you'd like to check out more about this, please find the hashtag #vintagestylenotvintagevalues .
You might have spotted this linen in my fabric haul a few months ago, and I had bought it with the intention of making a mustard yellow Garibaldi shirt. I usually like to buy just a tiny bit more than what the pattern requires, so I got 3 yards of this. However, upon cutting out, I thought that with some careful, creative, and most likely unorthodox cutting another item could be squeezed out of this beautiful linen. And of course, it must be a skirt. I'm really happy with these two items, they are very comfortable, pretty, and flattering! They can be worn together and apart, and though the skirt has for sure the most piecing I've ever done on an item (PIECING IS PERIOD), I don't think it detracts from the skirt in anyway, and it was definitely really satisfying to try and utilize it as best as I could :)
Please comment down below your favourite look from the little modern Victorian lookbook at the end! Or any suggestions you might have for other cute looks :)
