Baby elephant Khanyisa & her love of sweet potatoes!

Like any young two year old, Khanyisa has her favourite snacks and sweet potato is certainly at the top of the list! We can’t wait for marula season to arrive and for the elephants to have access to fresh fallen marulas for a few delicious weeks! But Khanyisa is also very fond of her sweet potato and from a bowl that includes pumpkins, and other fruits and vegetables her trunk will always pick out the potato first.

They are much like the bulbs and roots elephants dig up from under the ground out in the bush and full of energy and nutrition. The bigger elephants in the rescued herd get deliveries of squashes, pumpkins, cabbages, butternuts and oranges when possible and also enjoy the extra sustenance and snack.

Khanyisa lords over her snack bowl while Lammie and Nungu munch on the greenery with Nungu getting extra excited over the bana grass!
