This version adds color to the Game Boy game and includes a few bug fixes and small behavior adjustments here and there.

I really like this first Kirby game, and I often find myself replaying it. I love the game’s atmosphere, the soundtrack, and how simple yet fun it is. Even in the black-and-white version, it feels so lively and charming. There’s a kind of charm and simplicity here that I think gets lost in the newer games in the series, not that I don’t like them too, but this one and the other early games do something special.

But this is true simplicity: Kirby doesn’t even have the series’ most iconic ability yet, which is copying powers. Here, he just inhales and spits out enemies (or swallows them). In retrospect, you do miss that feature; looking at an enemy and knowing you can’t get their ability feels strange, but it still works.
