We all spend way too much time staring at computer screens and our phones. Excessive amounts of time focusing on a screen can be challenging for the muscles of the eyes to keep and maintain focus, often resulting in symptoms of eye strain, eye fatigue or "tired eyes".
In addition to eye strain, computer vision syndrome also presents with symptoms of dry eyes and even blurred vision.
Here are some of the lifestyle habits and tips I have adopted to help myself get rid of eye strain. I also review some basic eye exercises used to help improve the eye's abilities to see clearly up close and maintain focus.
Note: The eye exercises described in this video are very basic but are often included in vision rehabilitation programs designed for people with binocular vision disorders or post-traumatic brain injury. There is limited research on their effectiveness for computer-related eyestrain but may be of benefit to some people. Similar to physical therapy for stiff and sore muscles. As described in the video, please consult a local eye care professional in your area about proper technique and any binocular vision issues you may experience.
If you have not had an eye exam within the last year, please schedule a visit with a local eye doctor to have your eyes evaluated for any health risks.
I hope you find this video helpful and please comment with any questions you have. I take all of your comments and questions seriously and I appreciate you. - Joseph Allen, OD FAAO, Dipl ABO
