Making the Original 18th Century HAMBURGER |1747| Fire Cooking

The modern hamburger as we know it today is thought to have been born in America when German immigrants brought over the concept of Hamburg steak & sausages, which is seasoned minced beef formed into either a patty or stuffed in a casing popular in Hamburg, Germany. Sometime in the early 18th century this started to be served on bread in Germany & England, however it didn't get both a bottom and top slice of bread plus cheese until the 2nd half of the 19th century in the U.S.. The dish that you see in today's video is what it would have looked like before that later American influence. This tells a story of how our food has changed over 100s of years and how multiple nationalities came together to form the hamburgers that we know today.
