Building the Logging Railroad - Finishing the Coal Buckets and Working on the Logging Railroad.
We finished the Coal Buckets for the coaling tower and have moved onto the logging railroad. A basic shelf railroad above the main Colorado narrow gauge railroad.
In an effort to clear away all the wood stockpiled to make the benchwork, we are finishing the benchwork before getting back to the fun structures and trackwork. Some of that benchwork was to add the facia boards and finish woodwork to the upper shelf railroad, the logging railroad. This was actually the very first part of the railroad built over ten years ago by Steve Strebel and "donated" to the new railroad. That first section is 18 inches wide and eight feet long. I (Dale) painted a backdrop for that and installed it seven feet up on the wall above the jukeboxes and pinball. And started the new section that extends the length to around 30 feet. (When finished)
That was then, this is now! Over the years Karyn and I have been working on the lower railroad, a Colorado narrow gauge railroad mostly based on the Denver and Rio Grande Western and the Rio Grande Southern with quite a bit of Colorado Central and Colorado Southern tossed in. As one of our goals for this winter while on Covid lockdown was to finish all of the benchwork, this meant the logging railroad was both literally and figuratively hanging over our heads!!
All of the sections of the logging railroad are able to be brought down for maintenance and building and stuff, so the three removable sections have been brought down for finishing the benchwork, but now that it's set up down here we are pressing on to also finishing up the basic scenery and track work. So I guess we have been side-tracked?
