Saying Good Bye to Our Great Friend, Al Badham - O Scale Model Railroad Scratch Builder

A week ago our good friend and fellow railroad modeler Alan Badham shuffled off this mortal coil. We take a look back at over a hundred scratch built O scale models.

Al was a legendary scratch builders with scores of awards from national and regional modeling contests, well known even with the IPMS, (International Plastic Model Society)

Al was a great friend and was often on the show, giving tips on building pine trees or a proper sweet vermouth Martini. Al often helped with Steve's great O scale layout also featured often on the channel.

Al began modeling in wood in N scale over 50 years ago, later moving on to styrene plastic modeling in O scale. Modeling in several gauges, O standard, On3, On30, On2, and even now and then, On18.

His favorite era was the wood car steam era, 1890 - 1905. And loved east coast structures and railroads, including the 2 foot Sandy River and Rangly Lake, yet also modeled Colorado Narrow Gauge, the Denver and rio Grande Western as well as much more obscure lines like the Utah Central. Is favorite railroad was the Sabastacook and Moosehead!
