We’re back to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl music! Gen IV of Pokémon (which was released into Pokémon GO not too long ago!) is undoubtedly my favorite generation of Pokémon. I even did a final presentation in one of my video game music classes at Berklee about this game’s soundtrack! I love it when jazz makes it into video game soundtracks, and I can definitely point to Gen IV’s soundtrack as one of my biggest musical inspirations.

At the end of my Year 6 video, I posted a poll where people could submit their requests of Pokémon Gen IV music for me to cover, and this was one of the top voted songs! I thought it was the top voted one, but after checking the poll results a second time, there were a few other tracks that were super highly requested as well. Worry not, I’ll be getting to all of them in due time!

My concept for this cover was to turn Hearthome City’s theme into a true Bossa Nova. My recent New Wave Bossa Nova cover really wasn’t a traditional Bossa Nova, so I thought I’d make up for it with this arrangement! When I think of Bossa Nova, the first artist that comes to my mind is Antonio Carlos Jobim. He wrote so many of the great bossa nova standards that are still held in high regard by jazz musicians of today. One of my favorite tunes of his is Wave. It has such a beautiful melody, and the orchestration done by Claus Ogerman on the album “Wave” is so beautiful. I stole quite a few elements Ogerman’s beautiful orchestration when arranging this cover! The flute soli and unison parts that Ogerman writes are so fluffy and nice, so I decided to incorporate some of that into this arrangement. Huge thanks to my buddy Josh (Xnarky) for contributing some much-needed nylon guitar to this in the traditional bossa nova style. eHope you enjoy!
