Pokémon DPPt: Snowpoint City Jazz Arrangement || insaneintherainmusic

This song's already so cool that there's almost Snowpoint of me making a jazz cover of it... Insaneintherainmusic's jazz cover / remix of Snowpoint City from Pokémon DPPt.

I believe that video game music is a hugely important part of many of our lives. To pay tribute to these fantastic compositions and their composers, I arrange their compositions in various jazz styles! I release video game jazz arrangements on this channel every other Saturday at 12:30 PM EST!

Looks like I'm back to covering Gen 4 music, folks! This is a track that I've loved for quite a long time, but never really had a great idea for how to arrange it. I don't recall any particular "a-ha!" moment that inspired me to produce this video... but I'm so glad I did! I think this is one of my best mixes yet, and it's also my first video to feature me ACTUALLY playing the drumkit!

I've featured myself "playing" drum parts before in my videos, including Ghost Battle & Ashley's Theme. However, in those videos, I was basically just miming the parts on the kit for the sake of video footage. This drumkit (which is a Yamaha DTX522 that belonged to my friend Aldous) originally did not come with a module that supported USB to MIDI connectivity. I borrowed this kit from Aldous a year ago or so, and was disheartened by the fact that it didn't support this. Fast forward to about 2 weeks before releasing this video, and I ended up purchasing this kit from him, as well as a new drum module with USB to MIDI connectivity, and bam - drum parts. I'm so excited to further integrate this into my videos, and I'm so glad that I can FINALLY get some visual representation for the drum parts here! For those wondering, I've had quite a bit of experience on drumset before acquiring this one, so don't be fooled into thinking I learned to play drumset that easily - it's a complex instrument!

Regarding the arrangement, I was inspired by the likes of Snarky Puppy's "Culcha Vulcha" and Bill Laurance's record "Aftersun" to create a fusion-y, harmonically dense arrangement of this song. This was partially brought upon by the fact that I wasn't able to bring my electric bass home from college for winter break... so I decided to go with keybass on this one! I'm extremely happy with the sound palette that's presented in this cover, ranging from really cluster-y saxophone voicings to that synth solo. 4:11 features some constant structure harmony derived from some of the melody notes of the original tune.

Hope you guys enjoy this one!
