Utility of Having Age-Specific Rates of COVID-19 and Outcomes
My Tableau Public web page that contains the visualization discussed in this video are located at: https://tinyurl.com/COVID19-Jason
---------------------------------------------
I've been yearning for age-specific information on:
(1) the frequency AND RATE of COVID-19 cases in FL
(2) the frequency AND RATE of COVID-19 hospitalizations in FL
(3) the frequency AND RATE of COVID-19 deaths (and case-fatality) in FL
Why?
- First, although I'm interested in all age groups, I may want to drill down to all of these measures among high-school-aged kids, or infant and young toddlers.
- Also, county comparisons on case counts or rates can be misleading if counties differ substantially on their underlying age distribution. We might say those comparisons would be confounded by age.
We could calculate age-standardizes (or age-adjusted) info, but I find a visualization with the ability to select any age group of your interest to be even more informative. Since the FL Dept of Health makes these data available, I decided to build into my storyboard and include it for anyone interested.
As always, this video is limited to the questions I am capable of answering with the data to which I have access (and the time I have to put this together). What I continue to promise is no frills, no spin, just data.
