DEEP CUT on Baby Seal

Another seal rescue by our non profit organisation Ocean Conservation Namibia: a small female Cape fur seal pup had a very deep cut due to packaging strap stuck around her neck. The strap is a direct byproduct of the fishing industry when rubbish and single use plastics are discarded overboard.
Ocean rubbish and plastic pollution are a massive problem at the Namibian Coastline between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, all the way to the national borders to Angola and South Africa. A buzzing fishing industry has led to an increased amount of plastic waste floating around at the Skeleton Coast, entangling and endangering our local seals. To avoid animal cruelty, please be mindful and collect rubbish wherever you go, even if you did not cause it. Climate change is real, we all need to play our part.
This seal pup was small enough to catch by hand, which makes it easier to access the wound.
