HOW TO USE CANE ? ( SAME SIDE/OPPOSITE?-Biomechanics of cane in unilateral stance)
Using of CANE in right way is always a confusion.....Here we answer the question of using cane in right way in a simplified manner but still bio-mechanically.The question whether to use it on painful side or opposite side or to have compensatory lean to reduce pain is answered in this lecture. If you are a professional watch the video complete to understand the mechanics to advice your patient. If you are not a professional watch first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes of class to get into a conclusion.
The mechanics of CANE use is evaluated using biomechanical methods of evalauting hip joint compression in unilateral stance ,unilateral stance with compensatory lean , use of cane on Ipsilateral side, use of cane in controlateral side etc. The forces acting on hip joint, body weight compression, gravitational adduction torque, abductor muscle torque etc are evaluated in detail along with change in moment arm of muscles, the change in line of gravity etc in stance phase or single limb support of gait is evaluated.
