HIP FLEXORS ( BIOMECHANICS & PATHOMECHANICS # PSOAS MAJOR) Part 1

BIOMECHANICS AND PATHOMECHANICS OF HIP FLEXORS. Hip flexors are PSOAS MAJOR, ILLACUS, RECTUS FEMORIS, SARTORIUS AND TENSOR FASCIA LATAE. PSOAS MAJOR is chief hip flexor and primary muscle of hip flexion. The PSOAS MAJOR AND ILLACUS are collectively called as ILLIOPSOAS MUSCLE.The indivudual function of PSOAS MAJOR is discussed along with mechanics and pathomechanics of its action.
PSOAS MAJOR function as chief flexor of hip along with flexion it act as lateral rotator of hip. It stablize the lumbar spine and helps in lateral flexion of trunk.Its role in hip medial rotation,lumbar flexion and extension is controversial.
