"Farther Along" - Impromptu Jam Session with Jeanie Greene Lee on New Year's Eve 2009

I know it's been a while folks, and I do have more coming soon, so please bear with me.

I realize that a great many of you may or may not be familiar with the work of Jeanie Greene Lee. Some of you may say 'I've never heard of her'. Well, if you're a fan of Elvis Presley, you've actually heard her quite a bit as she was a back up singer for Elvis, from about 1969 - 1974 at the peak of his career. She can be heard on more than eighteen of his albums. She can be most clearly heard in songs such as "Suspicious Minds" and "In The Ghetto". She also featured in Percy Sledge's Hit, "When A Man Loves A Woman"

She is listed as Mary Johnson on a six disc set called, "Memphis Belles: The Women Of Sun Records" (availabe through amazon.com and others) She recorded a demo album at sun records for her parents at the age of thirteen in which she sang and accompanied herself on the piano.

She eventually changed her first name to "Jeanie". She took the name Greene from her first marriage to Marlin Greene which ended in divorce. The name Lee comes from her second marriage to Max Lee, a very talented musician, singer and songwriter. Sadly, Max passed on only a few years ago, and everytime Jeanie speaks of Max, it is always with an enormous love and affection.

She also has an impressive resume of singing backup for many other big names during the 60's and 70's such as Percy Sledge, Neil Diamond, Cher - just to name a few. She can also be seen as a backup vocalist for George Harrison in his "Concert For Bangledesh"

I had the great honor of meeting this extrordinary lady earlier this year, and now she has become a very close and dear friend to me for life. I was able to meet her through my cousin (Karla Irons) who had been friends with her since the 60's. Having not seen eachother in nearly fifteen years, my cousin decided to pay her a visit, and asked me if I would like to go with her. I jumped at it immediately. After talking with her only a few hours we discovered that there may even be a family connection between us, and even more fascinating than that we might even be kin to the king himself! We haven't researched it, so we can't be positive.

Well, this video - or audio file actually - is the result of us jamming around with Jeanie on the Piano on New Years Eve. We decided to recorded it just to see how it sounded. I hope you can forgive a couple of flubs around the chorus, as I think it was my fault that I threw everyone off...but oh well. I tend to be rhythmically challenged!

Well, if you would like to know more about Jeanie and her career, you can find information in various places on the internet, but the pretty scattered. I have plans to set a page for her, and give her the proper treatment she deserves. She has recently had her own album that she recorded in the late sixties rereleased that can be purchased at amazon.com and many other music distribution sites. She can also be found under "The Alabama State Troupers" on Amazon.com, as she does solo work.

Well folks, thats about it. I hope you enjoy this. Don't forget to visit me at my website. www.drstormonline.com You'll be able to find some more information about Jeanie under the "Latest News" tab

We would like to wish everyone a very "Blessed" and Happy New Year, and may God Bless you all!
