Wood & Wire - Fender 1962 Stratocaster Reissue (Lake Placid Blue)
For awhile, I've wanted to put together a series where I showcase and tell the tales behind some of my favorite instruments.
Today, we'll talk about one of my oldest and dearest - a Fender MIM 1962 Reissue Stratocaster in Lake Placid Blue. It belonged to my cousin Liz when we were teenagers - when she stopped playing, she asked me to "hang onto it" for a little while...a little while that has now turned into twenty years.
I'm not very much of a "strat guy" (I prefer teles) but I use them when I need to, and this one is a mighty good one. I've A/B'd it against a few USA '62s and there really isn't much of a difference in playability, feel, or tone. These early Mexican-made classic series Fenders are killer, right up there with the MIJs that we're all hip to now.
I have this one set up with a floating trem, a la Jeff Beck - a trick I learned how to do from the most excellent Carl Verheyen in an old video posted by Guitar World (link below).

Thanks for spending some time - happy picking, catch you all on the flip side.
