Hand Drumming Basics

In this video I teach how to hold a frame drum, the split finger technique, a few basic strokes strokes and a cyclical rhythm in 6/8. This approach was taught to me by Jamey Haddad and was the beginning of my introduction to hand drumming. Jamey's approach was to use the South Indian rhythmic system to introduce deeper levels of rhythm but also to use as a universal way of understanding hand drums in general. His intimate classroom setting allowed for personal engagement. He would also invite guests like John Bergamo, Cyro Baptista and Bob Weiner among others great musicians.
