Protocols and Ports by Michael DeQuattro (an original composition)

This work was the result of a 5 week residency with the Rhode Island College Wind Ensemble during COVID 19. The composition took place remotely over the internet using the limitations and possibilities of the internet, improvisation and a willing group of musicians who were encouraged and directed by me to try something many of them never experienced before... make music over the internet. There were no guide tracks or notation but rather a willingness to go out on a limb and trust that what they would play would actually turn into an artful piece of music. A visual accompaniment of film and images from the public domain film help to tie the individual movements together and guide the listener through the audible journey.
