Climbing Belize’s TALLEST Building–visiting caves, pools, and Caracol’s EPIC ruins!

We had a wild ride on our second day of touring Belize on the way to Caracol, Belize! Our adventures started out with a bumpy ride to Rio Frio cave. A short walk led us to this beautiful bit of nature, and we enjoyed the cool break inside the cave before heading back out into Belize’s heat. Our next stop–the main attraction–was Caracol, a sprawling ancient archeological city in the Cayo District of Belize. We traveled through these ruins learning about the culture of the people that once lived there, and the significance of different designs of the buildings. This ancient city used to be the home of more than 150,000 residents–more than the population of present-day Belize City! We also were able to climb the pyramid Canaa–or Sky Palace–the largest building in the ruins and still the largest building in Belize. On a hot day this was not for the faint of heart! We ended the incredible day at the Rio On pools, which was a nice, relaxing stop after climbing the towering Canaa tower. This was an incredible way to spend a day in the Belize’s adventure-packed Cayo District!
