Mercedes-Benz Actros - How to replace the O-ring of the bell hub | W930, W932, W933, W934

Before replacing the sealing ring, the Actros has to be secured against rolling.
Fix a tire in place with two chocks in both directions of travel.
Now release the handbrake for the next operation steps.
Continue working under the vehicle.
First raise the affected axle a few cm using a vehicle jack.
Fully release the differential lock.
When this has been done, the two wheels turn in different directions.
Remove the connector and pressure switch.
Mechanically lock the differential lock with a suitable bolt.
Minimum length of bolt: 60 mm
Locking is complete when both wheels turn in the same direction afterwards.
Remove both wheels on the corresponding axle.
The procedure is not explained in this video.
After the wheels are removed, drain the oil from the bell hub.
Knock the oil filler and oil drain screw, so that the screws can be loosened more easily.
Loosen the screws.
Note: Put an oil pan under the bell hub.
Turn the axle until the oil drain screw points downwards.
The oil can then flow into the pan once both screws have been removed.
Reinsert both screws.
Tighten the screws adequately with a wrench.
Continue with the removal of the hub and rear axle shaft.
Remove the three highlighted bolts.
The hub can then be pressed out.
To do so, screw three additional bolts deep enough into the relevant thread.
Screw in the bolts until the hub is completely detached.
Carefully pull out the hub and put it down vertically.
Remove the three bolts again and place aside.
Remove the exposed sealing ring using a suitable tool.
Always remove any dirt and oil residues.
You should already have ordered the new sealing ring and the correct grease.
Grease the area where the sealing ring is subsequently seated.
This is essential for ensuring that no more leaks occur in future.
Fit the sealing ring and thoroughly grease it once more.
Reinsert the bell hub.
If necessary, shake it slightly to position it correctly.
Reattach the three mounting bolts at the relevant positions.
Tighten all three bolts to 80 Nm using a torque wrench.
Turn the hub until the oil drain screw points upwards.
Remove both screws.
Fit the oil filler container to the oil filler opening in the center.
Pour in oil.
Note: only use hypoid oil with a viscosity of 90.
See the WIS documents for further information, including on the correct oil quantity.
Replace both sealing rings before sealing the bell hub with the screws.
Note: Remove the oil filler container rapidly so that not too much oil escapes.
Tighten both screws to 120 Nm using a torque wrench.
Reattach the wheels.
Continue working at the vehicle underside.
The differential lock has to be released again here.
Replace the sealing ring before installing the pressure switch.
Unscrew bolt.
Check whether the wheels turn in opposite directions again.
Reinstall the pressure switch and tighten it carefully.
Note: Do not forget to reconnect the connector.
Lower the vehicle jack.
This is no longer needed.
Check the oil level in the axle.
Remove the oil filler screw to do so.
Oil should now flow out of the opening.
Since this is not the case, oil must be added until it starts to overflow.
Reinstall the oil filler screw and tighten to 120 Nm.
Check the oil level at the through-drive housing.
Remove the oil filler screw to do so.
If oil runs out, as shown here, no oil has to be added.
Screw the screw back in and tighten to 120 Nm.
Perform a brief test drive to check the replaced O-ring for leaks.
Perform a last check in the pit.
