Examining the Use of Technology in Developing Prosody: Audacity and WASP

Technology has found its way into all aspects of teaching these days, and pronunciation practice is no exception. But how effective is it in providing audiovisual feedback as a means of raising awareness and improving the prosodic elements of English? Many products have been created to aid ESL teachers in developing the pronunciation of their L2 learners, but are often too expensive or too scripted to address students’ specific needs. The research discussed in this presentation explores the use of free online tools as a means of providing audiovisual feedback to enhance L2 comprehensibility for academic presentations.

Presenter: Carla R. Liu, California Baptist University.
Hosts: Teaching of Pronunciation Interest Group (TOP-IG) Hosts: Marsha Chan, Co-coordinator, and Randy Rightmire, Assistant Coordinator
