Polestar 2: A REAL luxury EV

The polestar 2 is not like other non-Tesla EVs… it's different. While other companies have tried to target the economical market with their cars, this Volvo brand is attacking the luxury market -- where Tesla has been untouchable. But Polestar might give them a run for their money.

Just looking at the specs of this car, you can tell this is intended to be a direct competitor to Tesla’s model 3. The Polestar 2 gives you 275 miles of range (500km), dual motor all wheel drive, and 0-62mph (100km/hr) in 4.7 sec. And you get all of this for around $63,000. For a comparable Model 3 configuration, that will run you around $56,000 but with 310 miles of rated range, as well as autopilot. So the Model 3 still seems like a better deal here.

As for Polestar’s self driving features; they are using Volvo’s intellisafe system. This gives you a lot of features like adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, and a bunch of other safety features that will make driving this car a lot less stressful. Obviously the car will try to avoid accidents using the intellisafe system, but in the event of an accident, the car will actually tighten the seat belts to protect passengers during impact. They’ve also designed the seats to protect you from whiplash, and put airbags in a bunch of strategic places, all with the goal of being the safest car it can during an accident.

Now let's talk about the interior - most notably that touch screen. Polestar teamed up with Google, and will use android to power the 12.3 inch touchscreen that controls the car. This means Google maps, google assistant, and even the google play store! Which is awesome, because Google probably has the best assistant available right now, and you’ll be able to download whatever supported apps you want to the touch screen. Previously, updating the infotainment system was solely the responsibility of the manufacturer, but this really puts the power in the hands of whoever is in the driver's seat to control what their car will do.

Moving to the actual design of the interior, it's clear they are going for a luxury market, it really has a BMW mixed with Tesla vibe that I’m really a fan of. Tesla I think takes it a bit too far with their software sometimes, but the Polestar two is a happy medium in that aspect. Just enough controls and physical buttons that will make non-EV drivers feel more at home.

As for the exterior design, I really like this as well. Its minimalist enough that it will attract people who want a futuristic looking car, but still stays true to traditional design aspects.

So if you want this car, you can put in a pre-order now. You pay a $1000 deposit now, and you’ll pay the rest when its delivered in July of 2020, if its on time.

But if you don’t want to pay the full price of the car, Polestar is also launching a subscription service. This sounds similar to a traditional leasing service, but included in the monthly fee you’ll not just get to drive the car, but also get maintenance and other service included.
This is a great idea, as electric cars are currently more tech product than vehicle. People spend more on EVs and see it as more of a luxury than just a form of transportation. So just charging a monthly fee to drive the car will definitely appeal to consumers, as that’s what people do phone, something else that they use every day.
