Llangefni Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located on the island of Anglesey just off the north coast of Wales is the town of Llangefni.

The town's name is Welsh for 'church on the River Cefni'. It was once known as Llangyngar after Saint Cyngar, the town's patron saint. Geographically it is situated on the old Roman road to Holyhead.

A market has been held in Llangefni since 1785. This was once home to the largest cattle market on the island of Anglesey, of which Llangefni is the only inland town. It is also the county town of Anglesey, and has one of the highest proportions of Welsh-speakers in the country with over 80% able to speak the language according to the 2011 Census.

In 1864 a railway station opened in Llangefni as part of the Anglesey Central Railway. However, the line fell victim to the Beeching Axe in 1964 as part of a controversial measure to encourage road travel. Today, public transport to Llangefni consists of bus services from Bangor, Holyhead, Amlwch and Beaumaris.
