Defending Britain From German Air Attacks | WW2: I Was There
Connie earned her living as a tailor in London’s East End. She had to contend with the daily bombing raids during the Blitz as she travelled from her home in north west London to her work. It was after seeing the destruction of her beloved East End and losing friends that she decided to join the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) which was the women’s branch of the army. She played a vital role as part of an anti-aircraft gunner team. Despite the stressful nature of the job, she was determined to defend Britain from German air attacks.
