Producing Sea Coats For The Royal Navy | WW2: I Was There
Connie Evans was working as a seamstress in East London at the outbreak of the Second World War. In September 1940 German bombing raids began on the city and Connie’s mother insisted she find work closer to home to avoid a dangerous commute across London. Connie turned her hand to war work and produced sea coats for men serving in the Royal Navy. She took great pride in her seamstress work and enjoyed ‘doing her bit’ for the country but having seen the damage German bombs had done to London, Connie decided there was more she could do to help defeat Hitler.
