Teenager Girl Roams "Alone" for First Time in Conservative Islamic Country Dhaka Bangladesh

This video is about a teenager girl living in Dhaka, Bangladesh and her experiences traveling outside her home in her neighborhood all "by herself" for the first time in a conservative Islamic country where being a girl outside is dangerous for the World Nomads Travel Film 2019 Travel Film Scholarship Application

During my stay in Bangladesh, a pair of bikers who have traveled to 40 countries were visiting. They would've been the perfect interview candidate seeing as they had a wealth of travel stories to tell, but to my surprise, it wasn't they who had the most compelling stories, but it was Meghma, the teenage girl! It was inspiring to see how these boisterous women bikers would turn down their volume, hush up, and listen with glee to Meghma's stories.

Being stuck inside all day studying and such unable to go out freely, and having such a strong mom, must have given something special to Meghma because her desire to go out and see the world and tell great stories is overwhelming. I wish I could have conveyed that better but this is an impromptu travel film/interview/documentary that I edited in just a few days to meet the deadline. I didn't intend to use the video so the footage looks janky and the interview was done in the 15 minutes we had inside a noisy restaurant while we waited for Bengali Chinese food LOL. But despite all the technical short comings, it was super fun to make and to see how it took on a life of its own.

Most of all, I hope Megma and Mr/Mrs. Roy are happy with the video. Hope to see you all again soon!
