Helping Ang, Ling & Nga UPDATE Child Workers @ Ben Thanh Night Market Vietnam
Hey everyone! I visited the Ben Thanh Night Market in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) Vietnam again almost a year after my first visit. This time, I was able to meet Ling and Nga who were made famous from the Troy Nguyen videos about poor child workers.
I was surprised to meet happy, well-adjusted teenagers. They quickly informed me that the original video was 5 years ago! I'll be making a video about them in the future, but in short, Ling is back in school! Although she is a grade behind, she's happy to be studying again and with her friends. Her skin condition is much better, and according to her, the lesions are 90% gone. Nga may not be here next summer as she plans on studying for big entrance exams next year.
This visit was prompted by a comment left by Daniel Trinh, who originally donated to Troy Nguyen to help the girls from Tan Hoa years ago but felt guilty that he had missed Ang as I pointed out in my first video.
Because of that, Daniel Trinh was looking for someone to go to the market for him to help Ang. Although I didn't get a hold of him, I couldn't leave him feeling down like that so I went to help Ang out anyways.
I got to meet Ang again and was impressed she remembered me from last year. Apparently, Ang's real name is Thu and her English name is Amy Lee -- I just misheard her. Thu is doing great as well. Her grandmother's? shop had expanded and now they're offering several new hat styles.
Everyone seemed to be doing well compared to last year except for a couple people. The original mother I gave baby formula to took a turn for the worse. Her husband abandoned her and their 2 children, leaving them all homeless. I could tell she was living rough, not having showered in days. She had a cart that was filled with all their belongings. Admirably, she was still sending her daughter to school despite sleeping on the streets and living in destitution. It was inspiring to see them value education so much. I hope their life turns around soon. If not, I may have to intervene somehow.
Thanks for watching and Peace be with You!
