Milking a cow for lambs?!

I fitted a Warn winch to my quad. Feeding and topping up the water in the sheep shed. I shouldn’t need to do this for much longer! I then got the Manitou and spikes to get two bales of silage. I took the warp off the bale and took it into a field to put it into the ring feeder for the cows.

Back to the yard and got the quad bike and snacker to feed the ewes. I also had a check of the lambs to check they are all okay.

I then went and let a cow out that had lost her calf. She is still producing milk so I put her into the crush and milked her. There are a few pet lambs that need milk so we use this milk for giving to them! A shot of the pet lambs that will get the milk.

Filling up the Manitou with diesel before getting two bales and putting them into the trailer feeder. I then hitched it up (which is really hard because you only have a mirror to see) and took it all the way to cows that need the silage. A shot of the cows eating the silage after dropping it off. There are also two new calves that have recently been born in this field.

The next day…Swift keeping my company in the Polaris Ranger while I’m going round the animals. I topped up the calf feeder before feeding the cows. I then got the quad bike and snacker to feed the ewes. Back into the Polaris Ranger to take some more feed for a different group of ewes.

Then it was onto moving a group of ewes and lambs into a different field. I used Swift the border collie to move them. There were a few stubborn ewes who didn’t want to go and stood up to Swift! This is quite a big field with hills which makes it harder to move them.

The Blackface ewes have been escaping out their field so I finished off the day fixing the fence by putting up square wire onto the fence to stop them getting through. Hanging up my stuff in the house at the end of the day!
