HIV Advance: Tracking HIV Superinfection Between Partners
In this NIAID video SNiP, NIAID researcher Andrew D. Redd, Ph.D., discusses a case study in which a woman living with HIV acquired a separate strain of HIV from a sexual partner. These findings support efforts to develop vaccines and other HIV prevention strategies that protect against multiple strains of HIV, according to Dr. Redd and his collaborators Drs. Deogratius Ssemwanga and Pontiano Kaleebu at the Uganda Virus Research Institute and Dr. Nicole Doria-Rose at the NIAID Vaccine Research Center.
