48 Hours Mystery - Black Dahlia Confidential (2005)

Erin Moriarty guides viewers through this fascinating episode about a possible solution to who murdered Elizabeth Short aka "The Black Dahlia."

The chief avenue of investigation, for the purposes of this episode, is whether or not Dr. George Hodel was the man who killed Elizabeth then put the two halves of her body on display beside a road in Los Angeles. This is certainly what Dr. Hodel's son Steve believes happened in January 1947.

Interviewed are James Ellroy (author), Steve Hodel (a former LAPD homicide detective and author), Stephen R. Kay (LA deputy district attorney), Mary Pacios (a friend of Elizabeth Short and author of "Childhood Shadows: The Hidden Story of the Black Dahlia Murder"), Tamar Hodel (Dr. Hodel's daughter), Michelle Phillips ( a friend of Tamar Hodel since 1958), Walter Morgan (who investigated Dr. Hodel for for the LA District Attorney's office), John Osborn (a document examiner and handwriting expert), Suni Chapman (a forensic artist) and Dr. Mark Wallack (chief of surgery at NY's St. Vincent's Hospital).

Viewers also get a glimpse inside Dr. Hodel's Franklin Avenue residence, The Sowden House.
