Peak Cluster boss discusses 120-mile pipe project on the Wirral

The Peak Cluster project hopes to take emissions from cement production in the Peak District and store carbon dioxide in depleted gas fields off the Morecambe coast. The project could also link up with Essar’s Tranmere oil terminal to import carbon dioxide from elsewhere and there are also plans for a four-to-five-storey compression facility near Meols or Moreton.

If approved, construction could begin in 2029 and last until 2032. The project is expected to cost £5bn and the government has already committed £28.6m to the project.
