How To Set A Task Deadline In Microsoft Project

How To Set A Task Deadline in Microsoft Project

First set up your schedule by adding your tasks and completion times, then link them all together in the Task: Schedule tool bar by clicking the chain link icon to see what’s the completion date according to the critical path method calculation.

Critical Path drives the schedule with an estimated completion date.
This better be before your project due date!
But how can you track the deadline of your project in Microsoft Project?

You can set a Deadline Date with the Task Information Dialog box.

Click the task you want to set the deadline for, then right click on it and select Information or use the Ribbon and select Task: Information.
Click the Advanced Tab and select your desired completion date.
A little green down arrow will appear in the Gantt Chart view to indicated the deadline.

Is your schedule running late? If the end date of the task slips past the green arrow deadline a red warning notifier will appear in the Indicators Column.

The Red warning icon is easy to spot, easy to report, easy to alert and easy to take action.
