China ‘hold out hope’ of diplomatic breakthrough with the US

The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says China “holds out the hope” of a diplomatic breakthrough with the United States to get them to “slow down” on their constraining actions.

“Biden is, at the moment, caught up in what he thinks is productive personal diplomacy with China’s President Xi Jinping,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News Australia.

“The Chinese usually … hold out the hope of a diplomatic breakthrough and get the Americans, therefore, to quiet down and slow down on their constraining actions, and they achieve nothing out of it.”
