Tips for Photographing Flowering Trees and Shrubs Close-up | Macro & Telephoto

This is how I simplify a chaotic flowering tree or shrub scene by zeroing in on either one flower or a cluster of flowers, isolating a bloom in the foreground, and moving position to allow distracting branches and flowers to fade out in the background. Sometimes, I like to use flowers in the foreground to frame the subject in the distance. And, sometimes I enjoy playing with my settings to use light and shadow - creating a dark background. I like to experiment and use the sky for backlighting or even light under a tree canopy. Usually, I focus on the stamens in the center of the flower and let the rest fall out of focus where it may.
