Meteorite Men | S03 E01 | Morasko Craters Poland

In the exciting Season Three opener Steve and Geoff go big when they embark on a summer expedition to a country neither of them have visited before -- Poland -- though Geoff does claim to be an expert in pierogis. The guys explore the spectacular and scenic 5,000 year-old Morasko Crater Field in western Poland, which is hidden within a lush forest.

The very first Morasko meteorite was discovered by accident, by a German WWI soldier digging a trench and many more were found afterwards, but the entire area is now a preserve. With a three-day hunting permit from the local university and a brand new top-of-the-line metal detector, the guys must sift through the buried wreckage of World War I, World War II, and the Napoleonic War if they are to find a record-breaking iron meteorite that may still lie buried deep underground.

Also in this episode: Geoff is enthralled by a bird's nest and is amazed to discover that Steve may have a metal plate in his head!
EPISODE TRIVIA:
Geoff of MM is a very enthusiastic amateur military historian. He was utterly fascinated that the crater field encompassed a battlefield from three different major conflicts. When he wasn't digging for meteorites, he was exploring the remnants of trenches and gun emplacements, still clearly visible within the Polish forest.
The Meteorite Men's metal detectors kept reporting targets which didn't adhere to their powerful field magnets and were extremely difficult to locate. They turned out to be Napoleonic War lead bullets which had oxidized and taken on the color of the soil in which they had been buried for so long.
