During summer, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and infants need to take extra care to avoid dehydration and sunstroke. These groups are more vulnerable because their ability to regulate body temperature is either reduced or still developing — especially in infants.

👉 Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should ensure adequate fluid intake through water, fresh juices, or coconut water. Dehydration in breastfeeding mothers can lead to a decrease in breastmilk production.

👉 Infants under 6 months should not be given water. Their sole source of hydration must be breastmilk or formula milk.

After 6 months, small amounts of water can be introduced gradually:
*6–9 months: up to 100 ml per day
*9–12 months: up to 200 ml per day
*1–2 years: up to 1 litre per day (in small quantities)

Water should only supplement hydration at these stages — breastmilk should remain the primary source.

In babies, avoid using mittens, socks, caps, or gloves during summer as these can trap heat and prevent it from escaping the body. Dress them in light, breathable clothing. Also, pay special attention to skin folds, as these areas are prone to rashes. Keep the skin dry and avoid using talcum powders.
