Lobovikov's favourite filming location was the village of Fileyskoye, which stood near the city of Vyatka on the banks of the Vyatka River.
Sergei Alexandrovich Lobovikov was born on June 19, 1870, in Vyatka province , in the family of a rural deacon . He received a four-year education at a rural school, then at a religious school. Orphaned early, at the age of 14 he was sent to study by the merchant and photographer P.G. Tikhonov in the provincial town of Vyatka . Lobovikov worked for him for 5 years under a contract without wages. In 1892-1893. did military service, from which he was later released for health reasons. He worked in St. Petersburg, but then returned to Vyatka.
In 1894 Lobovikov, rented a small room and photographic equipment, and opened his own photographic studio in Vyatka. Since 1899 he has been working as a photographer, in the same year he first took part in a photography competition in St. Petersburg, where he immediately received a bronze award.

In 1908 Lobovikov became Chairman of the Vyatka Photographic Society and one of the organizers of the Vyatka Art Museum .
He was recognised as one of the masters of photography in the 1920s. From 1920 to 1934, he tought a course in photography at the Vyatka Pedagogical Institute , and also worked at the Vyatka State Museum of Art and Antiquity.
At the end of 1934, Lobovikov and his family moved to Leningrad , where until 1936 he worked in the photographic laboratory of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
In the autumn of 1941, Sergei Lobovikov died during a bombing raid in Leningrad .
