Tolstoy House was built in 1910-1912 by order of Major General Count Mikhail Pavlovich Tolstoy (grand-nephew of the hero of the Patriotic War of 1812 P. A. Tolstoy ). From 1913, after his death, his widow, Countess Olga Alexandrovna Tolstaya, nee Princess Vasilchikova, became the owner of the house .
In 1918 the house was nationalised....
During the construction, a laundry room, water supply, elevators were immediately provided. This house was conceived as a home for all classes: there were apartments for people of different incomes, from modest to luxurious.

Mikhail Mikhailovich Andronikov was a Russian prince and adventurer. Born in 1875, he studied at the Corpes dress Pages but was expelled in 1895 due, it is believed to petty theft and immoral behaviour...From 1897 to 1914 he was assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but was dismissed for non-attendance at the service.
Had the title of gentleman of the bedchamber and the rank of titular counselor , in 1914-1916 years was a supernumerary officer on special assignments at the Procurator of the Synod .
In 1916, he published the state-patriotic newspaper "Voice of Russia", which was subsidized from the secret fund of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.On suspicion of espionage in favor of Germany, by order of the commander of the Petrograd Military District, Lieutenant General S. S. Khabalov, dated January 9, 1917, he was prohibited from living in both capitals and in areas declared under martial law. Andronikov was given the opportunity to choose a new place of residence and he opted for Ryazan .Upon his arrival in Ryazan on January 13, the police established secret surveillance over him, but failed to find anything reprehensible about the prince ....
After the revolution, the prince managed to get the post of chief of the Kronstadt Cheka (to organize a cash flow for those wishing to buy off and leave Soviet Russia). He was caught red-handed in large bribes (the deputy chairman of the Cheka Gleb Bokiy learned about a bribe of 2,000,000 rubles in gold from Grand Duke Alexander and his wife Ksenia ) and was shot on charges of " spying for Germany."
