In Memory of Atamato Madrandele - Chief Warden of Upemba National Park in DRC

ENGLISH PRESS RELEASE:
We are deeply sorry to announce the death of Atamato Madrandele, Chief Warden of Upemba National Park. He was killed on 16th December 2012, in Kyalwe village outside the park, on the Lubumbashi-Mitwaba road.
According to the witnesses, Atamato driving his motorcycle from Kiubo to Lusinga when he encountered an ambush by a group of MaiMai and was shot. ICCN and FZS teams are bringing his body to Lubumbashi, and the funeral will take place on Saturday. At the request of the Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (ICCN), an investigation is being opened by the FARDC into the circumstances of his murder.

Nous sommes profondément désolés de vous annoncer le décès de Atamato Madrandele, Conservateur principal et chef de site du parc national de l'Upemba. Il a été tué le 16 Décembre, dans le village de Kyalwe à l'extérieur du parc, sur la route Lubumbashi-Mitwaba.
Selon les témoins, Atamato conduisait sa moto en provenance de Kiubo vers Lusinga quand il a tombé dans une embuscade tendue par un groupe de MaiMai et il a été abattu. Les équipes de L'ICCN et de FZS apportent son corps à Lubumbashi, et les funérailles auront lieu le samedi. À la demande de l'Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN), une enquête est en cours d'ouverture par les FARDC sur les circonstances de son assassinat.
