The Invisible Effect | Pleasance Theatre London

The Invisible Effect Can a tradition be transferred through the eyes of a different culture? Is there a room for the Latvian folkdance to transcend its geographical boundaries and grow to be accepted as a mainstream entertainment in the same way as Latin American dance, or is it still restricted by its borders?

The Invisible Effect is research performance by the eyes of 7 international dancers and 4 international musicians, exploring ancient heritage, legends, symbols and movements of the tribal, pre-state Latvia many centuries ago. A conceptual and contemporary performance based on the percipience of those who have never encountered any relations to this culture. Choreographer Kirill Burlov (previously Rambert and the Latvian National Ballet), leads the creative team transforming these remarkable ancient traditions.

By his early twenties he made the move to England, pirouetting his way through prestigious English Ballet institutions, Northern Ballet, Royal Opera House, Michael Clark Company and London’s Rambert. He’s taken on film, theater, and TV roles. He is now in the fourth year of providing artistic direction for the festival Baltic Art Form and he still performs. @kirillburlov
