Research & Innovation Center for Graphene and 2D Materials at Khalifa University

The Research & Innovation Center for Graphene and 2D Materials (RIC2D) was launched early 2022 and is hosted at Khalifa University (KU). RIC2D is part of a strategic investment by the Government of Abu Dhabi. The aim of this investment is to facilitate the adoption of graphene enhanced materials in UAE and worldwide as an integral part of an advanced materials innovation ecosystem being developed in Abu Dhabi. The vision of RIC2D is to create a sustainable eco-system of researchers, innovators, engineers, industrial and value chain partners, to work symbiotically in a well-resourced, world-class environment, to develop and scale-up new technologies, products and processes related to the production and application of G2DM. This in turn should generate a broad range of academic, economic, and reputational benefits to KU and UAE.

The over-arching goals of RIC2D are:
Economic development: Focus on innovation-based companies to contribute to UAE’s knowledge-based economy.
Societal development: Focus on addressing key UAE societal challenges, including security, water, environment and energy.
Human capital development: Build a dynamic and sustainable R&D workforce in the UAE.
Knowledge development: Generate new scientific findings that will underpin future industrial development in the UAE.
Infrastructure development: Enable extends capabilities afforded through global partnership and alliances.
KU visibility and global ranking: RIC2D aims to Elevate KU visibility and global ranking through cutting-edge research on G2DM at RIC-2D labs and its partner centers at KU.
