BIYB & The Band of the Parachute Regiment 2019: A Bridge Too Far

This is the theme tune from the 1977 film relating the events in September 1944 when a combined British, American and Polish paratrooper force took part in operation 'Market Garden'. The cast included Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Robert Redford and Dirk Bogard, directed by Richard Attenborough. It tells the story of the attempt to secure bridges over the Rhine for the following invasion forces around Arnhem. it was in April 1945 that the 49th West Riding Division liberated Arnhem - in particular the 2nd Batallion Essex Regiment - 'The Polar Bears'. The Brentwood Imperial Youth Band is very proud to wear the Polar Bear on their sleeve and to 'Keep the Old Bear Alive'. We are also honoured to be the custodians of their standard which you will see displayed behind the band.

This was part of the sell out Concert which took place at the end of a day workshop with the Band of the Parachute Regiment on 7th April 2019. Conducted by the Bandmaster of the Parachute Regiment, Staff Sergeant Mike McGowen.
