Apple vs Chai + Namkeen — Which Spikes Blood Sugar More? | Real Home Glucometer Test
I tested how an apple and a typical Indian tea + namkeen snack affect post-meal blood sugar — real readings on a Contour Plus One glucometer (non-diabetic subject). The results surprised me. Watch the graph and quick explanation!
Experiment summary
Subject: Self — Non-diabetic, Male, Age 38, Indian
Glucometer: Contour Plus One
Test 1 (Apple) — May 9, 2025
Fasting: 98 mg/dL
1 hour after apple (~170 g): 121 mg/dL
2 hours after: 84 mg/dL
Test 2 (Tea + Namkeen) — June 5, 2025
Fasting: 91 mg/dL
1 hour after tea (with sugar & milk) + ~30 g namkeen: 90 mg/dL
Note: I did some light stretching before the 1-hour reading; it’s also possible a quick spike happened earlier (less than 1 hr) and insulin brought levels down before the 1-hr check.

Key takeaways
Apple produced a mild, expected 1-hour rise and returned below fasting at 2 hours — a normal healthy response.
Tea + namkeen showed no rise at 1 hour in this test — but possible explanations include lower carb load, effect of light exercise, or a fast early spike that was already corrected by insulin before the 1-hour measurement.
Short-term readings alone don’t tell the whole story — frequency, portion size, and long-term habits matter.
