TURKEY | Group A | Team Profile | EURO 2020

Turkey has lots of potential but without the results to match - that's been the story of Turkish soccer since a golden decade in the 2000s with semi-finals at the World Cup in 2002 and European Championship in 2008.

Things are looking up again in 2020-21, after a 4-2 win over the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying in March showed a team which can keep up with Europe's elite.

Turkey followed up by keeping Erling Haaland quiet in a 3-0 win over Norway.

The last 12 months have seen defender Ozan Kabak make the step up from Schalke to Liverpool, while Caglar Soyuncu won the FA Cup with Leicester and right-back Zeki Celik fights for a French title with Lille.

"Yeah it's a big excitement, it's always at the back of my mind. You know, you wake up and you think about it almost everyday and it's a great feeling. I spoke to a lot of players who have been in the Euros before and they say it's something different, something special and for every player, every person to represent their country...it's always special. So, I'm looking forward to it, I hope I can be there, I hope I can make my country proud."

"Yeah I don't have any personal expectations, it's my country you know I don't expect anything I just expect (good) things for my country and for my team and we have a great young squad who can do things. You never know in football but I hope we can make (a) difference and we can surprise people."
