Violence in Naples as Eintracht fans fight police | UEFA Champions League 2022/23

Violence broke out on the streets of Naples on Wednesday as football fans battled with police in riot gear ahead of the Champions League match between Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Fireworks were thown at police and vehicles were attacked and set alight.

800 officers were deployed to restore order, according to reports.

It has also been reported that it was not just Frankfurt fans who were involved, Atalanta 'ultras' also joined in in attacking the police.

Trouble was expected after several hundred Frankfurt fans travelled to Naples despite a local order banning anyone from Germany buying tickets for the game on security grounds.

However, a legal appeal eventually allowed those born in, or resident in Frankfurt to purchase Champions League tickets and attend the game.
