When a neighbor heard the horrific screams of dogs, they immediately alerted our rescue. Our team rushed over, stumbling upon the most heartbreaking scene: a new mama, surrounded by terrified puppies, desperately trying to revive her dead baby by licking him. A fresh wound on her neck gushed blood as she watched us, trembling.

Here’s what we know: the owner of this house didn’t want these dogs. He never did. When this young mama, Canella, approached his home in search of refuge for her little ones, he did the unthinkable. He grabbed a machete and drove it into her neck, then picked up a chair and whacked the frail puppies. Canella, screaming out in pain and distress, hurried her surviving puppies away from him. Overwhelmed by anguish, she tended to her two dead babies, but they were gone.

We rushed the family out of there, shaking from the horror of it all. At the animal hospital, the vets scrambled to tend to them. They are COVERED in fleas, ticks, and the early stages of mange. The poor puppies itch at their bodies relentlessly. They were given cleansing baths, and Canella’s wound was carefully tended to. Undoubtedly, they don't trust humans; when we tried to give a baby an injection for her worms, her brother stuck a paw out, shielding her. We’ve never seen anything like it.
