PowerBI Tutorial Cumulative Totals for a Financial Year

This PowerBI tutorial will show you how to calculate Cumulative Totals for a Financial Year. You will see how to create the Financial Year in Power BI and then apply a Measure that will display the cumulative total on a line graph.
You will then compare financial years using a slicer so that you can do year on year comparison.
Although you can view this tutorial from start to finish without the necessity of other instruction, it would be prudent to look at the "How to create a date table in PowerBI?" beforehand.
When you use cumulative totals to compare year on year values you can see if you are on, ahead or behind on your revenue targets. This is sometimes difficult to see should you just be comparing standard revenue for various years. The measure employed makes use of the calculate function along with the DatesYTD function in DAX. You'll also learn how to create a Calendar table from data that you already have and adjust it so that it suits your financial year. In this tutorial the financial year is taken from 1st April to 31st March although you could use the basis of this tutorial to have the beginning of the financial year being any month you want.
