Using the SUMIF function in Excel

Using the SUMIF function in Excel is fundamental should you want to sum numbers based on a certain criteria. Here's how you would use SUMIF in Excel.
Say, for instance, you wanted to add up a group of products but you wanted to separate them by each item. In this tutorial you will use the SUMIF function to sum the amount that you have spent on cheese.
As you can see I've put the list of the items I want to sum in column H and the list of Items I want to compare them against in column B.
What the SUMIF function will do is look at Eggs in cell H2 them compare all of the items in column B and return the value of Total for that particular row. The SUMIF function will do the same for Meat, Wine and Cheese.
