Are we free or are we bound by the perceptions of the world influenced by Western culture? Have we forgotten the education, language and moral values of our ancestors? We have lost our roots. We have to return and revive 'Vedic India'. This lecture deals with inter-caste relationships, changes in hierarchies of different castes over time, and analysis of the rights of varnas.

The basic meaning of the ‘varn’ implies the act of choosing, or what to choose. A person's ‘varna’ can be determined on the basis of his or her abilities, desires, interests etc.
The Varna system has its origin in the Vedas and applies to all members of society. But in modern times, this concept has taken very complex and controversial connotations.
Actually no one uses the word ‘varna’ anymore. The word popularly used for a classification now is, ‘jaati’ or caste.
The basic meaning of jaati is to make a classification on the basis of one or several parameters. The examples can be – the human race, female race, animal race etc.
But as the meaning of words changes over time, the meaning of the word jaati has also changed in modern society. Nowadays it implies a caste, such as Brahmin caste, Rajput caste etc.

In this talk, Mohit Bhardwaj tries to redress the negative opinions about society varna and jaati.
What was the purpose of this system? What is the role of the four 'varnas' in modern society? What are the usual perceptions about the various castes?
The speaker addresses these questions and clarifies many of the misconceptions about jaati and varnas in modern society.
