Vijayanagara: The City of Victory | Ratnakar Sadasyula | #SangamTalks

The Vijayanagara Empire that survived for 400 years, in spite of breaking up of large southern kingdoms like Pandyas, Cholas etc. and invasions in North from Muslim invaders, is famously known as The City of Victory. Shri Ratnakar talks about founding and flourishing of Vijayanagara empire on the right bank of Tungabhadra river, its circular construction on the lines of Shringeri Math of Adi Shankaracharya, the architecture, symmetrical step-wells, elaborate canal network for irrigation, the huge bazaars that openly sold Jewels, gems, diamonds, rubies etc. Under Deva Raya II the kingdom flourished in riches, art and architechture, literature and agriculture. Shri Krishna Deva Raya strengthened the kingdom even further in spite of constant attacks from neighboring Bahamin rulers and Portuguese on the other side. And the sudden death that the kingdom died after 4 centuries leaving its trademarks at Hampi to remind us of the City of Victory.
