Wow! Webb Saw Birth of a Baby Star

The James Webb Space Telescope has captured this beautiful picture of a newborn star starting its life in the middle of a dusty hourglass. The colorful clouds are only visible in infrared light, so they had never been seen before being captured by Webb's Near-Infrared Camera. The protostar, which is just 100,000 years old and at the earliest stage of star formation, is not yet able to generate its own energy.

This view provides a window into what our Sun and Solar System looked like in their infancy.
